Seed Mix consists of:
Yellow Clover: The scientific name Melilotus comes from the Latin Mel (honey) and Lotus, another genus within the Legume family. Sweet clover is a fine source of nectar and pollen for honey bees
White Ladino Clover: One of the best known nectar producing plants. Produces the most nectar when temperatures are between 80-90 degrees. A great spring source.
Dixie Crimson Clover: An excellent honey bee plant to produce a crop of good quality honey. Honey bees love it, produces a long bloom that is full of nectar. Often blooms for 2-3 weeks.
Buckwheat: (Fagopyrum esculentum) produce numerous, shallow white flowers and abundant nectar, and bloom in the late summer when other plants are no longer blooming. About one acre of buckwheat can provide enough forage for a hive of honey bees, producing about 150 pounds of honey in one season (Oplinger et al., 1989; Myers and Meinke, 1994).
Cornflower: (Scientific name; Centaurea) Generally blooms from late Spring until frost. It is reliable, long blooming and easy to grow. Is a nectar and pollen source.
Cosmos: Hot humid weather may slow down bloom in late summer; blooms for about 7 weeks. Growing cosmos from seeds can take about 7 weeks to first bloom. After that, though, your flowers should continue to bloom until the next frost. Moderate reseeder. Provides nectar & pollen.
