You insert the bee escape in the hole in an inner lid and place it under the supers you want to take off. You may want to place an empty shallow super under the supers you are taking off to give the bees more room. In a few days, depending on weather conditions, the supers will be clear of bees and can be removed. Bee aware of any robber bees getting into the super during this process.
